"The Born-Again Identity", not only re-introduced Castiel and Misha Collins to the show supernatural season 7 dvd, but it also reminded me why I love Supernatural. For all of the frustration that some fans may have on both sides of the Castiel argument, the truth is that he has become an important character on this show. When used properly - as he was in this episode - he doesn't detract from the core of the Winchesters, he just fits.
Supernatural is back and so are Sam and Dean Winchester. Bobby? Not so much. On the agenda is finding a way to bring down Dick Roman. At least that's Dean's agenda. Sam's to-do list is all about finding a missing hunter. The guy's daughter calls Bobby for help, but gets Sam instead. Sam gets into trouble so Dean has to drop everything Leviathan-related to go after him.
In
supernatural season 7, the boys get a call from Annie, a hunter friend. Before they get the chance to meet up with her, she disappears. So, her hunt instantly becomes their hunt. More significantly, Bobby's back and he's in fine, ghostly form. Will the late great hunter be able to connect on a whole otherworldly level with Sam and Dean? He's going to have to learn the ins and outs of being a spirit to do it.
The elder Winchester is investigating a case - just like the man who died in the truck accident, the baseball player had recently achieved sudden overnight success shortly before his freak death. But Sam is already working the case - with Becky!
Back at Mutual Freedom Insurance, the villainous figure from the baseball field appears and uses his power to make a huge lighting rig plummet from the ceiling towards Mrs Burrows. Dean pushes her out of the way just in time and the shaken socialite admits that she agreed to trade her soul for her husband's new position
