I liked the conflicts and tensions in the first season: the contrast between the philosophy of the clubs' founder, and the direction of the club; maybe you should have one to spend your spare time.
To be plain, I am generally not a fan of period pieces nor high British drama, but Downton Abbey is the shining exception. My wife and I began watching this after hearing good buzz about it, and we were hooked almost instantly. Great settings, fantastic actors, and an intruiging story line. Character development is solid without languishing into boring side stories.
